The Last Bulldog Report – Farewell

It’s been real. This is it. As the Glassboro Bulldog season ended and the semester coming to an end, this means I am done writing this blog. To be fairly honest, I am surprise how things have turn out doing this blog. I have learned a lot this semester about journalism. I cannot wait to continue covering sports teams after college. Well lets hope – I am forever grateful on covering this exciting team.

I think it is very fun covering a team with low expectations coming into the season to do so well and make the playoffs, just how the Glassboro Bulldogs did. Shoutout to the kids for an impressive season. Covering this team made me realize you can still build a core of young players in high school that are not seniors and can continue with success for years to come. That is what I truly see from this team.

A special shoutout goes out to Coach Hagerty. Although I did not get permission to interview the players, Coach Hagerty was very supportive and helped me out a lot during my interviews. He gave me very good answers and made me comfortable as it was easier to do my job. I wish Coach Hagerty and the Glassboro Bulldogs a great offseason and I look forward to see what they can do next season. I have a good feeling this team can go far with the potential they showed this season!

Covering football was something I was not sure about, but I think I can have a future with it. As always I watch football every Sunday as I support my Colts! It is ironic how both the Colts and Bulldogs surprise people this year. Follow me on Twitter if you want to see my tweets and my retweets. I usually retweet sports memes that will make you laugh. @GiancarloHenao1

Well that is all. Thank you to everybody who viewed my blog this semester. Take care and Happy Holidays!

To me this is an exciting post to do. After a season ends, journalist often post an early preview for the next season. Covering the Bulldogs has been fun. They started off in full rebuild mode going into the season with first year Head Coach Tim Hagerty. With having losing seasons for the last three years, it was expected that the Bulldogs will have another as they look for a fresh start with a new coach, new system, and new culture to the team.

In 2014 the Bulldogs were 8-2 and made the playoffs. Since then the Bulldogs manage to get 10 wins. This season the Bulldogs were able to shock Glassboro fans and make the playoffs. They went an even 5-5 record. With inconsistency as an issue, their record could have been or worse, but an even .500 record and playoff appearance is always a good start to an underdog story.

The Glassboro Bulldogs going into next season are looking to improve their .500 record and look into building a respectable record for a deep playoff push. Although it is very early we can see what the Bulldogs will need to improve looking forward. The Bulldogs will be losing their starting quarterback, clearly one of the most important positions in football. They also will be missing some important pieces on defense, but with mainly the offensive core still intact for another year of Glassboro football, this can very well be the same team that can improve. Players to watch out for: RB Dymeir Still (Junior), WR Greg Brackett and Keon Sabb (Freshman) , LB Tyrell Robinson (Junior). Here are a few photos of these players from this past season and can look forward to playing a key part of this young core for the Glassboro Bulldogs.

Although there is a lot of work to do for this team, in my interviews with Coach Hagerty his goal is to get his boys to the gym this offseason. He wants to build off this years success and take the next step. When looking at my previous blog posts, there are consistency issues for the team. Starting off 3-0 is very promising, but then going 0-3 in their next three games did not help their playoffs hopes. Going 2-1 at the end is a finish to the season, but there is more to do as Coach Hagerty looks to further the game plan each week next year. Hagerty’s goal is to get a home playoff game so the Glassboro crowd can help feed off the team’s energy as the Bulldogs look to get their first playoff win since 2013.

This is the score of Glassboro vs Williamstown. Although it is just a scoreboard of a tied game, this ended up playing a significant role as the Bulldogs edged out a 14-13 win to snap their three game winning streak which ended up capturing a playoff berth.

The picture may not be clear, but this is very important to the Bulldogs’ season. This was a touchdown drive where RB #8 Dymeir Still fighting his way into the endzone. This ends up giving the Bulldogs the score which leads them to a crucial win over Williamstown.

Through this season Tim Hagerty has been a leader for his boys. Going 5-5 in his first year many did not expect them to make the playoffs was an impressive accomplishment. The underdog story is just starting as the team looks forward to next season making that push.
